The Independent Visitor Service
The Children Act 1989 states that all Local Authorities have a duty to provide the opportunity for every child in care who has little or no contact with their family to have an Independent Visitor. County Community Projects (CCP) has been appointed to co-ordinate the Independent Visitor Service for Gloucestershire. Independent Visitors are volunteers from the community who are over 21 and this means they are independent of the 'looked after' system as is required by the Children Act. They have made a commitment to have contact or visit a child/young person once or twice a month to help build a stable, positive and continuous friendship. For more information please contact (or this could say "to make a referral" followed by your information. If you are interested in volunteering as an Independent Visitor please contact CCP on 01242 228999.
