Traffic Regulation Orders

Measures that regulate the movement of vehicles require a Traffic Regulation Order (TRO), for example:

  •  Speed limits
  •  Waiting restrictions
  •  One-ways
  •  Prohibition of turning movements
  •  Weight limits
  •  Driving prohibitions
  •  Experimental Orders

The procedures for making Traffic Regulation Orders (TRO) are laid down by the Secretary of State and must be strictly observed by the County Council. This is a legal process, part of which includes consultation with various stakeholders, including the general public before a TRO may be implemented.  Normally the whole legal process takes a minimum of 6 months.
