What school is your little one going to?

Gloucestershire County Council is reminding parents and carers of young people in Gloucestershire to apply for a primary school place for this September.

The form, which can be completed online, needs to be submitted by 15th January, 2017.

An application must be made for every child starting school in September 2017, even if their name has been registered with a school directly or siblings already attend. Parents and carers can apply online 24 hours a day, seven days a week at www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/startingprimary. Hard copies can be downloaded from the same link or by calling 01452 425407.

Parents and carers are encouraged to list up to five preferred schools on their form to try and make sure they get a place at one of their selected schools.

Changes can be made to the form right up until the closing date. An email will be sent to confirm that the application has been received. There is no risk of applications getting lost in the post by applying online.

Cllr Paul McLain, cabinet member for children and young people at Gloucestershire County Council, said: "This is a really exciting time for parents and guardians as their young ones start their paths of learning.

"Even if you have another child already attending a school, please make sure you apply, as it does not guarantee your child automatic entry into that school.

"Online applications are the quickest and easiest way to let us know your preferences. To have the best chance of getting one of your preferred schools, please make sure you return the forms to us by the deadline."

Last year, 88 per cent of children received their first preference primary school, 97 per cent was offered one of their preferences and 93 per cent of parents applied for their child's primary place online.

Parents will find out which school they have been allocated on 18th April and will need to return the reply form by 2nd May. After 16th May, if parents have requested an alternative placement, or have made a late application, they will receive the result of the reconsideration of the school place application. Appeals will be held for admission to schools during June and July.
