When the weather is hotter than Magmar and you need to keep Tentacool, how do you stay safe in the sun when out hunting Pokémon in Gloucestershire?

Never Fearow, Gloucestershire County Council has some handy tips for you to be the very best!

  • It isn't just Squirtle that needs water to keep going, so make sure you drink plenty to stay hydrated
  • Make sure you don't get burnt by Charmander and slap on some suncream when you're out hunting...Sunburn can be Bulba-sore!
  • Even Ash wears a cap when he's battling Pokémon, you should too!

One of the biggest risks of being out in the sun for long periods is malignant melanoma - the most serious form of skin cancer. It is the fifth most common cancer in the UK and most cases are caused by over exposure to UV rays from the sun or sun-beds.

However, most skin cancers can be easily prevented by taking some sensible precautions when out Pokémon hunting in the sun during the summer holidays, such as wearing sunscreen.

It is also important to be careful when catching Pokémon around Gloucestershire. Make sure you pay attention to your surroundings, especially when crossing roads, and that you are with a responsible adult or group of friends while playing.

You don't have to be a Pokémon master to use this advice, but if you follow our tips you could be the next Ash Ketchum!

Cllr Andrew Gravells, cabinet member for public health at Gloucestershire County Council, said: "As you travel across the land, searching far and wide for Pokémon make sure you stay safe in the sun.

"Sometimes when I've been out in the sun for too long, I can start to feel Drowzee. By following these tips, I've been able to hunt all day!

"Don't be like Magikarp, be the very best and choose to stay safe in the sun!"

Gotta catch 'em all!
