Have your say on the budget

Gloucestershire County Council is asking residents to have their say on proposals to focus on
vulnerable children and adults, better roads and a new school in next year’s budget.

Mark Hawthorne comments on council meeting

On Wednesday 28 June an extraordinary meeting was held to discuss the outcome of the recent Ofsted inspection of services for children in need of help and protection, children looked after and care leavers.

The meeting was filmed by BBC Points West who reported that some councillors had been asleep at points during the meeting.

Mark Hawthorne, leader of the Gloucestershire County Council, gives his response.

“I can understand why people are annoyed about this. I am not happy about it either. It is unacceptable if councillors were not paying attention and I will be discussing this with other group leaders.  This must not detract in anyway from the importance we place on protecting our most vulnerable children, and that all 53 councillors were united at the meeting on the steps we need to take.”
