Continuing health care

On Wednesday 9 October 2013 NHS England, in conjunction with the Association of Directors of Adult Social Services, launched an electronic training tool for all those involved in assessment and decision making around NHS Continuing Healthcare.

The tool, fully endorsed by the Department of Health, was developed by staff working within this complex policy area from the NHS, Adult Social Care and patient representative groups.

The tool is free to use and is designed to be intuitive and flexible so that health and social care staff can easily register and undertake training at a time and place that suits them.  The tool will support local training programmes and support the work undertaken by all Clinical Commissioning Groups to ensure that there is consistency and legal compliance in the assessment and decision making processes for NHS Continuing Healthcare.

The E-Learning tool is available via the following links.

NHS staff: E-learning for NHS continuing healthcare

This is applicable to all NHS staff with the following e-mail endings: @nhs.net; @nhs.uk; @hscni.net; @gov.im; @doctors.org.uk

LA staff: Continuing healthcare portal

This is applicable to all LA staff with a .gov.uk e-mail ending

There is also the opportunity for individuals who do not have the above e-mail endings to access the e-learning via a manual request. This may be limited to those individuals directly involved in the NHS Continuing Healthcare process. If there are sufficient requests for specific groups we may able to broaden the automated settings. Please contact england.south-chc@nhs.net should you require access.
