Parking badges for people with disabilities

Blue Badge Scheme

badge

The Blue Badge scheme is designed to give registered blind people and those who are unable or virtually unable to walk the ability to park close to the facilities and services they need to use, so as to improve their lifestyle, independence and freedom of choice.

Since April 2000 all new badges issued are blue and will be usable in all European Community countries (EC). For greater security and to help prevent abuse of parking privileges, the badge holder's photograph and signature will be sealed into the badge. The Blue badges and time clocks can be used in the same way as the Orange badges have been.

The Direct Gov website has much useful information for people with a disability. It really is worth a look.
