Cycling routesThere are many published routes and designated trails to help you feel confident in exploring Gloucestershire by bike.![]() Cycle routes in the county - shown on the Sustrans websiteThe Stroud Valleys Pedestrian Cycle Trail runs from Stonehouse to Nailsworth along a disused railway line. This 6 mile route offers safe cycling with level gradients and several access points. In the Forest of Dean the Forestry Commission have created an 11 mile Family Cycling Trail. This circular off-road route is waymarked along forest tracks and old railway lines. The Cotswold Water Park in the south-east corner of the county has a flat landscape that makes for very gentle cycling between the many lakes. Some of the paths are suitable for off road cycling, although during wet weather these can be flooded or severely muddy. As well as the publicly funded routes there are an increasing number of commercial books and leaflets suggesting routes for cycling in Gloucestershire. Follow the links on the left for more information. The National Cycle Network is 5000 miles of safe, signed, attractive cycle routes, open and mapped for June 2000. It is made up of traffic-free sections and traffic-calmed road and minor roads, running right through urban centres and reaching all parts of the UK. |
