Occupational Road Risk
Driving whilst working for GCC: How we minimise the risks to our employees.  The Council has reviewed its corporate standards for the control of road risk and has strengthened these. This review examined six workstream areas that reflect the diversity of business driving activities in the council.
The individual workstreams are:
- Business driving. This covers the broad topic of driving on council business and has produced a new policy that can be downloaded from this page. Managers must risk assess business driving and check driver's documents periodically.
- Managing Minibuses & Trailers. This covers issues surrounding the special licensing and training requirements for drivers of passenger carrying vehicles and the towing of trailers. The project has produced a new guidance document that can be accessed from this page.
- Managing contracted transport providers. This covers the establishment of robust health and safety assessment of contracted transport providers.
- Managing on-site transport. This covers the management of traffic routes on all GCC owned sites.
- Fleet management. This project scoped and prioritised the risks associated within our fleet management. A Fleet management policy has been developed and can be downloaded from the Fleet Management page.
- Passenger risk assessment. The project examined the competencies and standards for drivers and passenger assistants and has produced enhanced guidance available here.
