The Catholic Diocese of Clifton and the Anglican Diocese of Gloucester have recently consulted on the proposal to close Christ College and to open a new academy serving north west Cheltenham on the site of Cheltenham Kingsmead School which will close on 31 August 2009.

From October 6 2008 to February 10 2009, Gloucestershire County Council ran a competition to find a new provider for a new school created by the amalgamation of Lynworth Primary School and Whaddon Primary School in Cheltenham.

A new community primary school will be built at Kingsway, Gloucester.

In most circumstances, when a new school is required the local authority will invite proposals from a wide range of individuals, groups, organisations and institutions to set up and run the school. The aim of this is to help raise standards in schools and increase choice for parents.

The County Council consulted stakeholders between 12th June and 6th July on a range of options for the future of Cheltenham Kingsmead School.

A new process is being developed for the ongoing review of school provision in Gloucestershire for the next 10 years.
