Art Lift - Arts in Health Project

ArtLift Phase 2

We are delighted to report that Gloucestershire PCT has agreed to fund a further 3 years of our ArtLift Arts in Health project.  Consequently we have now recruited artists to deliver the programme.

There is a growing body of evidence that participation in arts activities can be very effective in improving patient welll being.  Depression and anxiety has been shown to improve significantly after working with an artist and participants often find new avenues of expression and social interaction outside of the clinical environment.

The Art-Lift project responded to this evidence by bringing together artists with patients in 15 health care settings across Gloucestershire from March to September 2007.  Artists worked with participants on a one-to-one or group basis, across a range of art forms - including poetry, textiles, painting and ceramics.

The project was led by Gloucestershire County Council Arts Department in partnership with the Gloucestershire Primary Care Trusts, 5 Gloucestershire District Councils, arts venues and other arts and medical professionals from within the county.

By the end of the project we hope that patients can realise their own creativity, see a change in their confidence and well-being, and have broadened their horizons.

Art-Lift phase 1 was funded by the Arts Council of England and Gloucestershire County Council's Arts Department.
