The Nappy Diaries

Read all about my experiences with real nappies here!

Baby with a toy washing machine

I have decided to share my experiences of using real nappies with you. I am an employee of the county council, but am currently on maternity leave. I am doing this in my own free time, and at no cost to Gloucestershire County Council.  I am aiming to add weekly comments, but the demands of a new baby may delay some entries, and Gloucestershire County Council assumes no responsibility for late/missing entries.  Please note that any opinions/brands discussed here are my own opinions, and not endorsed by the council.

The short address for this page is www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/thenappydiaries

I would love your comments, ideas, and thoughts about real nappies, and you can email Jenny Keen and I will include your tips, or respond to you when I can.  Please be aware though that I am on Maternity Leave, and with a brand new baby, I may not always respond immediately!

The Cast:Nappies on Line

  • Mum – that's me, mother of Teen 1 and Teen 2 (just as unruly as Thing 1 & 2 of The Cat in the Hat for those who are familiar with Dr Seuss) and the (at this time of writing) unborn Le Blob - the crazy one who will attempt to share my nappy diaries with you.
  • The Clueless One – my partner – first time dad-to-be , – excited, enthusiastic, and totally clueless! Beginning to get a bit scared, as he should be...he's in for a big shock!
  • Teen 1 – male, well developed grunting skills, inability to maintain a pair of socks beyond the first wear, or to see the breadcrumb trail of destruction he drags behind him!
  • Teen 2 – Female, not strictly a teen, but a tween and well on the way. Inability to use the word goes in the right context as in: "she goes blah blah, then I go blah blah..." (they definitely don't 'go' anywhere...she spends most of her time spread on the sofa texting about who goes what!)
  • Le Blob – the focus of these nappy diaries! The BABY!
  • Dig the Dog – rather silly little dog who has ideas of grandeur and thinks he's perhaps a big dog...but still wants to sit on your knee! Very affectionate, but very daft. Bares uncanny personality resemblance to The Clueless One!
  • T & G – the cats – arrogant, selfish, hairy, and absolutely sure they are always right! Baring uncanny resemblances to Teen 1 and Teen 2 (apologies Teen 2 – you are not so hairy!!)

Also introducing a whole host of other characters (friends, family, work colleagues etc) who drop in and out as necessary!

Brief Introduction to The Nappy Diaries.

""This has all come about due to the very welcome, but very scary predicament I find myself in – I am very soon going to give birth - a dozen years since I did this previously (I must be mad – I've seen what they grow into!) Le Blob – as we like to refer to this bizarre and unfeasibly large bump that has transformed me into a zepellin-shaped thing with a human head shoved awkwardly on top, and some ankles bravely trying to support it all (down there somewhere – haven't seen them for a while – though from Teen 1 and Teen 2's disgusted exclamations of "ew – fat old ankles or what" when I bribe them to put my shoes on, I guess they are chivalrously doing their best!)  Anyway – Le Blob is due in the next couple of weeks, and I will endeavour to share my experiences of Real Nappies with you over the coming year or two! I am hoping to update this blog initially on a weekly basis – but may revert to monthly if my information dries up (unlike the nappies are likely to do...) or becomes repetitive.
