The current edition of the map will be revised to take account of the Lorry Management Zone (LMZ) and other recent changes.  Updates on the LMZ and other freight issues can be read in the Freight Quality Partnership Newsletter.

Why a Freight Quality Partnership (FQP)?

Because there is a problem. Freight hauliers and users suffer from congestion, lack of clear signage and route information, secure lorry parking and overnight facilities - all of which have a negative impact on their business. Pedestrians, cyclists, people living along routes used by heavy lorries find them noisy, polluting, and sometimes a threat to their safety. Yet we are all dependent on freight services.

The FQP brings together all these people to find out exactly how and where these problems affect us in Gloucestershire. We set up working groups to look at the issues in more detail and identify possible solutions and propose workable next steps. We are keeping our expectations realistic, and aim for local, practical "wins".

Part of the FQP's work is to look at Gloucestershire's Lorry Route Network. Ongoing feedback on an Advisory Freight Route Map for Gloucestershire is taken from road freight operators, parishes, district councils, campaign groups and representatives of freight related business organisations, the emergency services and transport planners. The first version of the Advisory Freight Route Map is available as a pdf on this page.

What kind of organisation is our FQP?

Our FQP is a "light" organisation. We operate on a minimal budget and aim to focus our efforts on actions rather than reports and meetings. Anyone attending a plenary meeting and subscribing to our common objectives is regarded as a member. They currently include major freight users, rail freight and road freight operators, campaign groups and representatives of freight related business organisations, the emergency services and transport planners.

The FQP meetings are open to anyone who shares our concerns about freight in Gloucestershire, and if you know of anyone who would find the FQP of interest, please let us have their contact details. Members can volunteer to participate actively in a working group, which is a commitment to meetings, usually in Gloucester, every 4 to 6 weeks.
