Real Time Passenger Information

what is it and how does it work?

Real Time Passenger Information

Bus passengers between Gloucester and Cheltenham are benefiting from up to the minute information on when their bus will arrive. Instead of waiting, not knowing if your bus is just around the corner or is 5 minutes away passengers on routes 94, 10 .(information is also becoming available for other Stagecoach routes) and the Waterwells/ St Oswald's and Arle Court Park and Ride services can see the 'real time' that their bus is due.

Web alerts will allow you receive an on-screen notification on your PC screen when bus services you are interested are nearing departure.
Have a look at the instructions, downloadable from this page, for details of how to set this up on your PC.

This is thanks to satellite technology, which tracks the buses and sends a signal to the bus stop and the internet saying how far away the bus is. A display on the bus stop will count you down until the bus arrives and the same information can be viewed over the internet.

You can find this information on the RTPI website . Stops are shown as yellow flags with their correct positioning indicated (i.e. into Gloucester). You can zoom in and out to suit your preference. Clicking on the yellow flag will open a small window, which will show you the Real Time information. You will be able to see the times for the next 5 buses.

The information on both the web site and the on street displays is updated every 30 seconds. This gives you accurate information to help you plan your journey.

So... if you're at the bus stop and you know that the bus is 4 minutes away, it could give you time to nip across the road and buy a pint of milk rather than make a separate trip later... if you're in the office, home, or library using the web site you can have the confidence of knowing exactly when the bus will arrive, and can stay out of the rain until the last minute... and for those of you who are just too busy, maybe that's 4 minutes when you know that you can sit back, relax, and do nothing for a moment.

This project has been funded by the Department for Transport and Gloucestershire County Council, with some contributions in kind from the bus operators, including 10 new low floor double deckers on route 94 from Stagecoach.
