Management of Health & Safety in GCC

The County Council has a duty to ensure that all of its services are provided in accordance with current health and safety legislation and guidance, and to ensure the safety, health and welfare of all staff and others who may be affected by its undertakings.

The Safety, Health & Environment (SHE) Unit provides competent advice and support to the County Council to assist it in meeting this duty.  The service extends to schools that currently "buy back" the service.

The Council's Corporate Health and Safety Policy confirms the organisation's commitment to managing health and safety, and details arrangements for achieving the policy.  "Second tier" policies are in place for each service directorate and "third tier" policies for operation units (including schools) as required.  See further details on these below.
