  • Q: What is a Local Transport Plan?
A: A Local Transport Plan outlines everything that needs to be delivered in Gloucestershire to improve our roads, trains, buses, parking, cycling and walking facilities. LTP3 will be our third Local Transport plan and will cover what needs to be done between April 2011 and 2026 to provide a safe and sustainable transport network.

We aren't lucky enough to have an unlimited pot of money to spend on transport, and resources are limited. That is why we need your help to identify where we should be investing our resources.
  • Q: Why should I be interested in transport and LTP3?
A: Transport weaves the fabric of everyday life, touching the lives of everyone. It effects how you get to school, work, the shops and the doctors. It also ensures that the goods and services that you rely on for everyday life are delivered. On another level it influences our health and well being and that of the planet too. If more people walked or cycled we would be healthier and we would all be doing our bit to reduce the carbon emissions too.

Transport touches everybody and we have some important decisions to make on how we best invest limited resources. The Local Transport Plan 3 will set out the transport blueprint for Gloucestershire for the next 15 years. Make sure you have a voice and tell us what you think the future of transport should be in Gloucestershire by taking part in our Talking Transport consultation.

Our consultation runs from 17th November 2009 to 31st January 2010.
  • Q: Who writes and owns LTP3?
A: A number of different organisations manage the transport system in Gloucestershire and developing LTP3 is a partnership between them, although it is the duty of Gloucestershire County Council to lead the preparation of the plan.
  • Q: What does LTP3 need to do?
A: LTP3 needs to meet local and national priorities to make transport work better for everyone. Central Government tells us what the national priorities are, while local priorities are chosen by you through taking part in this consultation.

  • Q: What local transport challenges does Gloucestershire face?
A: The plan we produce will need to help us meet a number of local transport challenges including:
    • New development
    • Economic regeneration
    • Existing congestion on our transport network at peak times
    • Making our transport network more resilient to severe weather
    • Reducing Gloucestershire's carbon emissions
    • Continue to deliver good access to important services like work, education and health with limited budgets
  • Q: What is the LTP3 made up of?
A: The plan will be a major document, and will consist of a number of different items or sections including:
  • Q: How will you use my views?
A: The information gathered through our Taking Transport consultation will be used to produce a draft Local Transport Plan. Our consultation runs from 17th November 2009 to 31st January 2010.

Later in 2010 we will carry out further consultation on the draft LTP3, so you can have more input before we produce the final plan.

The final Local Transport Plan will then be discussed by County Council Cabinet and Full Council before being adopted, which we have to do by law by April 2011.
  • Q: How do I take part?
A: To find out more about how you can take part in our Talking Transport consultation visit the Tell us your transport views page. We look forward to hearing your views.
