1 Motion has been received from Cllr Hilton. This will be seconded by Cllr Crowther .

Motion No. 658 Restoration of Civil Liberties & Political Reform

This council notes:

The new Government's commitment for much needed political reform and the restoration of our civil liberties.

This council welcomes:

  1. The proposal to bring in a proportionally elected second chamber;
  2. Proposals to regulate party funding;
  3. The proposal to hold a referendum to give people a chance to vote to end First Past the Post elections for the House of Commons;

This council also welcomes the introduction of the Freedom Bill, which will;

  1. Scrap the illiberal ID cards scheme;
  2. Bring an end to the fingerprinting of children in schools without their parents' consent;
  3. Introduce better regulation of CCTV cameras;
  4. Place significant restrictions on the DNA database;
  5. and restore the right to protest.

This Council resolves to write to our MP/s asking for their support in Parliament when these bills are heard.

To write to the Deputy Prime Minister giving this council's support to the proposed bills.
