Paying for library services

Many of our services are free to members but there are some things we charge for:

Late return

We charge for overdue items.

The maximum fine for each item is £8.20 (books).

How to pay

You can pay library charges in person when you visit any library. 

Reservation charges

It is free to reserve items using the library online catalogue. If you ask staff to place the reservation on your behalf at a library you will be charged £1 per reservation.

There is also no charge if you are

We also offer an inter-library loan request service  to request books not available from our library stock. The charge for this service is £3.70. This includes an £1 administration fee. If we find we cannot supply the book you have requested we will re-credit your library account with £2.70

You can request journal articles through the inter-library loan service please visit any county library. The charge for this service is £3.70. This includes an £1 administration fee. If we find we cannot supply the item you have requested we will re-credit your library account with £2.70.

Printing charges

Computers are free to use but you will be charged the following fees for printing:

  • Black and white A4 - 10p per sheet, black and white A3 - 20p per sheet
  • Colour A4 - 80p per sheet, colour A3 - £1 per sheet
  • Microfilm reader prints -£1 per sheet

Printing for local and family history enquiries from service users outside Gloucestershire*:

  • Black and white A4 - 50p per sheet, Black & White A3 - 60p per sheet
  • Microfilm reader prints - £1.50 per sheet

*These charges cover the extra administrative and postage costs involved

Room hire and other charges

We provide a range of services from fax, to room hire for meetings and conferences.  Ask at your local library for more details and fees for these services: Library opening hours and facilities.

Concessions

You may be eligible for some concessions if you are:

  • unemployed
  • in receipt of income or pension support/credit
  • blind or visually impaired
  • hearing impaired
  • suffering from a disability which means you are not able to hold a book
  • dyslexic or your ability to read is impaired or you have learning disabilities
  • a student on a literacy, numeracy or Foundation English course
  • housebound
  • a child in care

Library staff retain the right to ask for proof of entitlement to any of the above concessions.

People who are unemployed, on income or pension may be asked to provide evidence that they are entitled to the concession. Library staff will ask you if your circumstances have changed to make sure the concession still applies.

The documents we accept as proof of eligibility:

Unemployed: Job seekers allowance or benefits agency letter

Pension Credit: Payment order book, benefits agency letter
