Supporting people - housing support for vulnerable people
The Supporting People Strategy 2011-15 focuses on how we will provide housing support to vulnerable people in Gloucestershire in the coming years.
Housing support helps vulnerable people to learn the basic skills to remain at home, including staying safe and secure, as well as to become more active members of their community. It also helps them gain access to education, training or employment and to other services, such as social care, health, doctors and community organisations.
The Government pays for the Supporting People programme and this funding is set to reduce over the next four years. However, the county council has decided to invest more into the programme than it is receiving from central funding.
In future, there will be more emphasis on early intervention and prevention, which we know can delay or prevent people from needing longer term or more complex support.
We plan to support more people to find a job, training or continue their education, to help them to look after themselves better and to be more involved with their communities.
The new Strategy has been jointly drawn up by the Supporting People Partnership Board, which is made up of all of the district councils, NHS Gloucestershire, the Probation Trust and the county council.
