Gloucestershire Supporting Early Reading Pilot: Towards developing a layered approach to readingFirst report on the the pilot. The pilot is being extended for another year so we can collect more dataIt has been agreed that this pilot will be reported back in two stages, and so will be extended for another year in order to collect progress data for children at the end of KS1 for Yr 1 pupils, and at the end of the academic year for special school pupils. Children on the pilot who had not yet started 'Bear Necessities A2', have been funded to continue the programme this academic year. All mainstream pupils made progress on the intervention with Wave 3 (ie children with Special Educational Needs) making a similar rate (non significant difference) of progress to those who were identified as Wave 2. Only 9 children (out of the sample of 200) made little progress last year, which represents 1% of the Yr 1 cohort. These children have been funded to continue the intervention this year. All but 2 of the 17 special school children in the pilot made progress, with children identified as having Autism Spectrum Disorder making the greatest progress.
