Virtual School, Cookery School

Virtual School in partnership with Dean Close School have started a cookery school.

The initial cohort of young people who took part, gathered together for 4 Saturdays to learn some essential kitchen skills!

Over the 4 weeks, young people created 8 types of dishes that was supposed to be taken home and eaten with their foster families - whether this happened or not is a different story as the young people really liked what they made!

Jane Featherstone, Head Teacher said

"It was great to see our young and vulnerable students who did not know each other before the first session grow in confidence, both socially and with their skills in cookery.

The dishes they made were great. They have also begun to develop skills in the kitchen that will help them as they  grow up and become independent young people. It is crucial for our young people that they have such skills so that they are able to make meals that are nutritious and they feel confident to make".

We are still developing this with Dean Close and there are few more pilot cohort groups before we will roll this out but if you are interested in, please contact Dan Gillingham, Wider Outcomes Lead.
