Finding archives relating to South Gloucestershire
Gloucestershire Archives provides an archives service for South Gloucestershire Council.
We hold many original documents relating to South Gloucestershire and you can use them in our public research room. Bristol ArchivesOpens new window also holds South Gloucestershire-related archive material, which is different from the material in Gloucestershire Archives' collections.
You can check the whereabouts of particular records before you visit by checking the guide to sources for South Gloucestershire (also available by clicking on "A guide to archive sources for the history of South Gloucestershire" in the download section to the right). The guide is arranged by place and subject, and gives a brief description of the records, their reference number and location. You can then use the reference number in the online catalogues for Gloucestershire Archives and Bristol Archives to find out more about the records.
You can also download a list of items held at the Yate and District Heritage Centre.
Please have a look at our Preparing to Visit page if you'd like to view any original documents at Gloucestershire Archives. Amongst other things, this explains how you can have your documents ready and waiting for you as soon as you arrive.
