Gloucestershire Remembers WW1
A community project exploring the heritage of World War One.
The 4th August 2014 marked the start of the 100th anniversary of the First World War. If you are currently doing things to commemorate this hugely significant anniversary, or want to do so between now and 2018, the Gloucestershire Remembers WW1 project can help.
Amongst other things, the project is helping local people and organisations to research and share stories about what WW1 meant for their communities. Between November 2013 and December 2014 this activity was led by the GRWW1 Project Co-ordinator with support from staff at Gloucestershire Archives, volunteers from Gloucestershire Family History Society and Gloucestershire Local History Association, and local teachers.
We've produced FREE resources that will help people of all ages to learn about:
- The men from your community who enlisted to fight and what happened to them;
- The impact that the war had on the people and places in your area.

If you're considering your own WW1 project, you can take advantage of the Archives' FREE planning a community archives heritage project guidance. Archives staff are happy to broker bids from organisations that wish to club together for funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund's Then and Now and Our Heritage grant programmes.
