Starter Activities 

This download details the following activities that could be undertaken as a classroom introduction to the topic.  These can be delivered by Gloucestershire Archives as a taught session (this is chargeable - please contact us for details). 

  • In the News! - Students have to write and present a media report on the siege of Gloucester Castle in 1265.
  • Get orf my land! - Students create an improvised dramatic interpretation of the events surrounding the creation of the 'Bearlands' district of Gloucester.
  • How much? - Students investigate the castle accounts for the costs involved in making the catapults and also the wages of the garrison.
  • Let's Make a Plan? - Students have to create a ground plan of a castle.
