A resource exploring the inclosure movement during the 1700s and 1800s

The resource focuses on inclosure, a movement that fundamentally changed how land was organised in the 18th and 19th centuries.

It was developed in partnership with Woolaston Primary School, Gloucestershire, and has been supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Friends of Gloucestershire ArchivesOpens new window.

"What's beneath your feet?" supports the Key Stage 2 History curriculum, in particular the local study topic as well as being cross-curricular, incorporating: Literacy, Numeracy, Geography, ICT, Drama, Citizenship and Art and Design.  Please refer to the individual activity templates, the curriculum spider diagram and the extension activities for further information.

can be provided as part of the resource.

  • Some of the activities (chain surveying and Georgian costume) make use of resources that we can lend out.
