Children and young people will find this Passport to the Past an ideal way to help them understand some of the amazing documents that we have at Gloucestershire Archives and what can be learned from them.

The Archives holds the records for the county of Gloucestershire and South Gloucestershire. This includes around 12 million documents, some of which go back 900 years and some which are only weeks old! We have letters, deeds, diaries, photographs, maps, books, newspapers and anything else which is made of paper. Increasingly we also collect digital copies.

Our Passport to the Past resources brings all of this to life in a series of fun activities. We have stories and puzzles, posters, activities which allow you to design a wax seal, map or write like a Tudor! And much much more!

The resources have been created to use alongside our monthly online club for children and young people. As well as general activities, we also produce special pages each month to fit in with that month’s club theme, such as the Victorian classroom, newspapers and finding out about children’s lives in the past. You can find out about when the club events are happening here. However, the Passport to the Past can also be used by non-club members in class or at home.

We recommend that children keep their passport sheets in a ring binder or Filofax. They are ideally printed out in A4 but A5 will also work well!
