Coronavirus update

We're pleased to announce that from the 4th August Gloucestershire Archives will re-open to the public.  We've had to make some changes to the way we work, and you can see more details about our new arrangements on our Covid recovery page.

You will need to book your documents in advance.

At the moment Gloucestershire Family History Society remains closed.

If you're not able to make it in, have a look at Gloucestershire Heritage Hub for ideas and links to help you #ExploreYourArchiveAtHome.

Access to Gloucestershire resources on Ancestry for free

While Gloucestershire Libraries and Gloucestershire Family History Society’s research rooms are closed to the public during the Covid-19 pandemic, customers have been unable to access digitised copies of Gloucestershire records free of charge. We’ve been working with Ancestry and can now provide free access to Gloucestershire’s digitised resources until they can welcome you back. Please use this link to access them.

WW1 Military Appeal Tribunal documents held by Gloucestershire Archives

Gloucestershire Archives holds a variety of documents in a number of collections relating to Military Appeal Tribunals held in Gloucestershire between 1916 and 1918. The collections have now been researched in detail by David Drinkwater, and information relating to individuals has been indexed and transcribed to help show what documents have survived and which collection(s) they can be found in.

Downloadable off this page are a spreadsheet of all the names in these surviving documents, together with a PDF document that explains how the spreadsheet works, and how links have been made between items in separate collections that relate to the same name.  We recommend searching the spreadsheet with the PDF document to hand.

As with the other resources that he has created, we are very grateful to David for making this material available through this web page.
