Phil James, Advanced Practitioner
Hello, my name is Phil James and I’m an Advanced Practitioner in the Gloucester Children’s Assessment Teams. Alongside working with children, young people and their families, I work with social workers to develop social work practice and ensure good outcomes for children.
I’ve worked for Children’s Services at Gloucestershire County Council (GCC) for six years now within a few different teams, including the Safeguarding Children’s board, Participation team and the Quality Assurance Team. Through these roles, I’ve experienced multi-agency working, which has helped me to gain a good understanding of how other teams work and how we can all work well together. I’ve also been lucky enough to work with our GCC ambassadors, which are young people that have experienced our services at some point in their life and help us to make sure that the voice of children and young people is heard.
Throughout my career here at GCC, I’ve always received great supervision and support from managers and colleagues to develop my career and take up training opportunities. Sometimes I’ve had a busy workload and been faced with difficult decisions, but I’ve always had support and advice to help with this.
What I enjoy most about my current role, is the diversity of the children and families I work with in Gloucester. I live in Bristol, but to me, it’s worth the commute to work at GCC. I often use the journey to and from work to reflect on my day’s work which helps me to relax as I have a very busy personal life.
