Cllr Klara Sudbury - Raising funds for the Hollie Gazzard Trust and Gloucestershire Oncology Centre
Hi folks,
During my year as mayor of Cheltenham I am raising funds for two brilliant local charities who support people not just in Cheltenham but in Gloucestershire. The Mayor of Cheltenham Charity Appeal is a registered charity in its own right and all funds raised through this fund are divided between the charities chosen by the mayor at the end of their term in office.
The Cheltenham and Gloucester Hospitals’ Charity’s Focus Fund raises money to support patients at Gloucestershire Oncology Centre. Focus is the charitable fund for the Gloucestershire Oncology Centre, raising funds which directly provide extra care, specialist equipment and improvements to facilities for local cancer patients. There has been a dramatic increase in patients coming through the centre in recent years. The work in the Gloucestershire Oncology Centre and through clinics in surrounding counties reaches a population of over 1 million people, and the donations they receive make a real difference to the lives of local people fighting cancer and their families.
The second Charity is the Hollie Gazzard Trust. The Trust was created following the murder of 20-year-old Hollie Gazzard in 2014 by an ex-partner. HGT helps reduce domestic violence through creating and delivering programmes on domestic abuse and promoting healthy relationships to schools and colleges. In addition, it funds hairdressing training for young people who may not otherwise have the funds to study – Hollie was passionate about hairdressing and HGT enables others to follow their dream.
My daughter has never run a half marathon before (and has dodgy knees) but has decided to take on this challenge along with others to raise money for my charity appeal. She is training hard and if you would be kind enough to sponsor her it would mean a great deal to me and also help make life easier for the very many people treated for cancer or experiencing domestic abuse in our County.

If you would like to run the half marathon or know someone who would to join #teammayor and help my fundraising appeal please let me know. Cllr Babbage and CBC’s Cllr Savage have already had their arms twisted to be part of #teammayor, thank you to them J
If you don’t fancy running but can think of another personal challenge you could do to help me fundraise that would be great too.
Kind regards,
Klara.
