The Gloucestershire Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment (2022-25) has been published

The Gloucestershire Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment (PNA) must be published by a local authority Health and Wellbeing Board every three years. It is a statement of the needs for community pharmaceutical services, which identifies whether there are any gaps in the provision of services in the county, and whether any new services, improvements or better access to existing services are needed.
- The PNA found that there are no gaps in the provision of necessary services. These include essential services provided by community pharmacies, the dispensing service provided by dispensing doctors in controlled localities, and the appliance service (such as medical devices and equipment like stoma pouches and catheter bags) provided by dispensing appliance contractors.
- There is an opportunity to improve access to pharmaceutical services in the Podsmead ward of Gloucester.
- Performance issues have been identified in specific pharmacies; the South West NHS England and Improvement Community Pharmacy Team are aware of these and are taking appropriate actions in response.
