Secure Email (Egress Switch)

Egress secure email - information for third parties

Gloucestershire County Council is introducing Egress Switch, a new and more secure way of communicating with third parties, external contacts, and members of the public. Egress Switch is a secure email solution that enables the council to communicate securely with you, and enables you to respond to and initiate secure correspondence with us.

As a recipient no costs will be incurred for receiving and replying to the secure Egress email. However, you will not be able to use Switch to send a secure email to another third party unless you or the third party you wish to communicate with has a full Switch licence.

Gloucestershire County Council will continue to send emails as usual from their Council email accounts (i.e. those with addresses such as joe.bloggs@gloucestershire.gov.uk); recipients will receive secure emails in their existing email accounts.

Registration and using Egress

To open a secure/encrypted email sent via Egress, you must be a registered Egress Switch user. Registration is a free, very simple, one-time process that will take no longer than 5 minutes to complete. Details of how to register are provided in the 'Quick start guide'.

Gloucestershire County Council is one of many councils using Egress Switch to protect personal and/or sensitive data in transit. You may already be a registered user of Egress Switch communicating securely with another organisation, if so, you will be able to use your existing Egress Switch credentials to enable you to communicate securely with Gloucestershire County Council.

Additional information about Egress Switch is available on the Egress web site:
