Advice and support for elderly residents

   

Government guidance is that people 70 years of age and older are at increased risk of severe illness from coronavirus (COVID-19) and need to be particularly stringent in following government advice.

Qwell: access to trained online counsellors

This online platform will include self-care resources, peer support and access to trained online counsellors, and will be open to anyone experiencing issues with their emotional wellbeing, such as stress or anxiety. Qwell may be suitable for individuals who are awaiting a referral and/or treatment from the Let’s Talk Service (IAPT) or as ‘step down’ support for individuals exiting this service.

Gloucestershire Age UK

For information and guidance call the Help Team on 01452 422660 or for older people who would like a listening ear and friendly chat call the free phone 0800 2980579. Lines are open Monday to Friday 9 am to 4 pm.

Their Out of Hospital service is available to older people who are discharged following a stay in hospital in line with Government Covid-19 guidance. For more information call 01452 420937 or 420928. There is a 24 hour answer phone so you can leave a message.

The Silver Line

A helpline for older adults.

The Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS)

This service that offers support, information and assistance to patients, relatives and visitors. Telephone 0800 019 3282 (Free phone) or 0300 422 6830 / 6831 or email ghn-tr.pals.gloshospitals@nhs.net.

Guideposts

Guideposts will support people self-isolating by providing a Stay Connected free helpline service, call 0800 048 7035 (Monday to Friday 9am-5pm). Support includes Information, Advice and Guidance around with specific advice for carers/family members.

Reconnect: befriending

Reconnect are offering telephone befriending for current participants and those on their waiting lists for people affected by Stroke, Dementia, Aphasia, and other long-term health conditions, and their carers. People can still refer into the service but there could be a wait.

They are offering a pen pal service where children, young people and adults can exchange letters with those who are isolating. There is no need for a formal referral for this and letters will go through CSCIC so there is no need for participants to swap addresses. Contact: coryn@cscic.org or louise@cscic.org.
