Families with children

Children may respond to anxiety in different ways, such as being more clingy, withdrawing or getting angry. Listen to their concerns and reassure them. Help them find positive ways to express feelings; sometimes engaging in a creative activity, such as drawing can help. Make opportunities for children to play, have fun and laugh.

Keep to regular family routines as much as possible or create new ones. Think about having a set time for learning and a set time for playing. If your children have concerns, addressing these together may ease their anxiety. Remember children will observe adults’ behaviour for cues on how to manage their own emotions at difficult times.

Although this time may be difficult now, children may look back at this time and have happy memories of spending quality time with family and doing fun things together.
