First Aid Reimbursement
Early years education providers must meet the paediatric first aid requirements set out in the statutory framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
It is required that at least one person who has a current Paediatric First Aid certificate should be on the premises when children are present in your care. Childminders, and any assistant who might be in sole charge of the children for any period, should hold a current paediatric first aid certificate, which should be renewed every three years.
Reimbursement Requirements
Gloucestershire Local Authority will make a funding contribution towards the cost of Paediatric First Aid training for childminders and settings, (not schools or home carers) for new trainees and staff who need to renew their training after a three-year period.
Upon completion of an appropriate EYFS compliant training, childminders and settings may apply for payment of up to £60.00 per practitioner and up to a maximum of three practitioners per setting per financial year.

We will stop processing applications as soon as the funding allocation is depleted. Furthermore, because there is no guarantee of future funding you might consider bringing your March 2026 training requirements forward into the February, our contributions are subject to the funding allocation still being available.
Application process
To obtain the funding contribution, childminders and settings should fill in the online form below and attach a copy of their Paediatric First Aid certificate which must be from a company providing EYFS compliant training, together with a receipt for payment.
You must indicate clearly which one of the below you are:
- Registered childminder
- Childminder currently going through the registration process*
- Which day care setting you are from
*Childminders currently going through the registration process will be eligible to apply for reimbursement on completion of a recognised EYFS training course for childminders and upon receipt of their Ofsted or Childminder Agency Registration certificate.
