Cyber Safety

Gloucestershire County Council’s Education Inclusion Service offers information, support and guidance to families in Gloucestershire who educate their children at home. We have seen enormous changes in the use of technology by young people. Some children are going online at an earlier age and spending increasing amounts of time on the internet, which brings its own challenges for parenting in this digital age. Education around this forms part of the curriculum for children in school, and we would like all educators in Gloucestershire to feel confident in understanding the issues involved if they feel this is something that is relevant to their child, or may be relevant in the future.

Whilst we do not consider that children and young people who are educated at home are necessarily at any greater risk in this regard than other children and young people, we would like to offer parents and carers of home educated children the opportunity to become ‘cyber aware’, this includes being able to spot and protecting your children from cyber bullying, online grooming, sexting, social media and the dark web.

The internet is a remarkable tool. A powerful one if used correctly. Gloucestershire County Council is giving you the opportunity to attend a special presentation to outline how to protect yourself and your family when they use the internet. These presentations will be held throughout this year and next. A full list of venues is below.

If you would be interested in attending one of the sessions listed below, please email us at ehe@gloucestershire.gov.uk at your earliest convenience, stating your choice and the number of places required. This will help us in our planning and enable us to contact you if, for any reason, arrangements change. This is an event for parents to attend; it has not been designed with children and young people as intended members of the audience.
