Activities for children and young people

Gloucestershire provides lots of fun and exciting activities for Children and Young People with disabilities and their families too. To have a look at what’s on offer near you take a look at the SEND Local Offer.

You’re Welcome

You're Welcome is an inclusive online directory and forum, which sits as a part of Your Circle and Glos Families Directory. It's the place to find social events, clubs, groups or places to visit, you can also get ideas on how to find support to access the things you and your family want to do.

All listings for events or activities include accessibility and inclusive practice information and contact details.

Short breaks

Short breaks are available for some Children and Young People with disabilities, and enable them to try out activities, spend time with their friends and enjoy themselves! Short breaks also offer Parents the opportunity to have a ‘break’ from their caring responsibilities and allow them to rest or spend more time with other children.

All disabled children are entitled to an assessment of their social care needs, leading to a support plan to meet any assessed needs. Any agreed need for short breaks or Personal Assistant (PA) time will be included in your assessment and plan.

If you want to ask for an assessment, contact the children's help desk on 01452 426565.  For more details on Gloucestershire’s short breaks offer, please follow the links below:

Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) Programme

The HAF programme is funded by the Department for Education and is run during the School Holidays in Gloucestershire. The programme supports children and young people who receive benefits-related Free School Meals, though has been extended during previous holidays to be accessible to all children and young people in Gloucestershire.

The programme offers day-time activities for children and young people, and a meal or food kit will be provided during each session.

Training is being offered to all host sites to ensure that sessions are inclusive, and that staff understand how to support children and young people with additional needs. However, there are some specifically tailored sessions available for children with additional needs. For more information about what is available in your area take a look - Holiday Activities and Food programme.
