Dear applicant,

You will be joining at a hugely important time for the county. We have a strong and resilient economy and the majority of local people enjoy a high standard of living, but we are committed to ensuring that all our communities have the skills and opportunities that they need to thrive now and in the future.

Working with business we will ensure that the county remains an attractive place for investment, so that our economy continues to strengthen and create more opportunities. Building on our excellent partnerships, we will work to ensure we identify the best, creative solutions to the challenges we face. Our focus will be on the future while not forgetting our commitment to provide excellent services right now.

We are clear that we want leaders who can deliver our vision and our promises. Our directors must be able to develop and lead teams who have already shown how committed they are to what we do and be able to work beyond organisational boundaries to focus on what is best for residents. As a member of our directorate leadership team, you will provide leadership that stimulates the development of a vibrant county and ensures Gloucestershire continues to be a great place to live, work and visit for all of us.

As Director of Highways and Transport, you will lead transportation and infrastructure services, including highways, public and community transport, and will help shape our influence over wider transport issues such as rail, bus and cycling enhancements.

As Director of Economy and Environment, you will take the lead in developing strategic policy in partnership with our district councils influencing the development of the county over the next 30 years. This is in addition to our ambitious growth programme, an expanding economic development portfolio as well as our climate change commitments and ambitions.

In both roles you will provide clear strategic focus and an engaging narrative that enables staff and partners to see the goals, align their efforts and to reach our targets. You will also champion the work we have done on our values and behaviours by leading and modelling the approach and styles we want to embed. Of course, you will also promote excellence, effectiveness and customer focus while ensuring effective risk management. You will also be highly skilled at navigating the political environment both at our council and others.

You will be at the heart of our continued development as an organisation, helping us capture the opportunities available. Why wouldn’t you want to join us in creating this exciting future for Gloucestershire? We look forward to seeing your application.
