Wholetime
A wholetime firefighter completes a 48 hour week which includes shifts to cover a 24 hour service. The shift pattern is 2 day shifts both 9 hours long, 2 night shifts both 15 hours long and 4 days off-duty
On-Call
An On-Call firefighter is a paid person employed by a fire and rescue service who is ‘on call’ to respond to a range of emergencies and to engage with their community. They have everyday lives and jobs, until their pager sounds - then they become professional firefighters.
