Summary - Why we are consulting

Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service and Gloucestershire County Council are committed to providing the best services to our communities throughout the county.

We want to ensure we have the right people, in the right place, at the right time to provide an emergency response and to improve our community prevention and protection activities across the county.

To ensure we are delivering an effective and efficient service we are constantly reviewing our response to risk through our Community Risk Management Plan. As part of this plan we take a risk based approach and regularly review modelling and data to evaluate the service we provide.

We want to consult with our communities, our workforce and other stakeholders about how we can improve our fire and emergency response cover, which also includes firefighter working arrangements.

We need to ensure that we continually assess how we best serve the communities of Gloucestershire.

After reviewing the modelling and available data in accordance with our CRMP 2022-2026 priorities we are asking to consult on an increase of fire cover within the county.

“We want to ensure we have the right people, in the right place, at the right time to provide emergency response, community prevention and safety needs across the county.

“The proposals ask to consult with the public, our workforce and stakeholders to increase fire cover across the county, including options around shift patterns.”
