Don’t delay: start your fostering journey today

Gloucestershire County Council is inviting anyone who would like to find out more about becoming a foster carer to a two-hour information session.
The information session is open to anyone to attend and will take place on Saturday, 8 December 2018 from 10am to 12pm at the Civil Service Club on Tewkesbury Road, Uckington GL51 9SL.
There are currently 683 children in care in Gloucestershire. Gloucestershire County Council has 230 fostering homes and needs many more.
Cllr Richard Boyles, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said, “It typically takes between six and eight months to become a foster carer, so we’re encouraging anyone who is considering it for 2019 not to wait until next year. Take the first step by coming along to this open information session.”
The information session will include a short presentation with details of the local children who need foster homes, followed by a question and answer session with an experienced foster carer.
These are suitable for anyone who is curious about fostering, is considering it for the future or has decided they would like to apply to foster. There is no need to book.
The county council accepts applications to foster from all sectors of society. There is no upper age limit to foster and people can be married, single, co-habiting, in a heterosexual or same sex relationship, a homeowner or renting a property.
All children are different, and to meet their needs, the county council is looking for a wide variety of people. Applicants will need to be over 21 and have a spare room (or spare rooms for siblings) in their home.
