Nothing old fashioned about resurfacing on Stroud Road

The top part of Stroud Road is a popular cut through between Bristol Road and Clifton Road, and is in need of some attention. The road will be closed overnight between 7pm and 7am to try to avoid disruption to visitors attending the Victorian Christmas Market at Gloucester Quays.

Cllr Vernon Smith, cabinet member for highways at Gloucestershire County Council, said, “This short stretch of Stroud Road is used by a lot of people throughout the day, and it’s in need of some of our £150million investment into your highways.  We are aware of the market at the Quays and we have planned the working hours so there will be as little disruption as possible for residents or visitors.”

Cllr Pam Tracey, local member for Westgate and Hempsted, said, “One of my favourite parts to the Victorian Market is the old fashioned steamrollers, but I’m pleased to see highways technology has moved on a lot since then! So much so that crews only need a few days to put down a long lasting surface on Stroud Road. Please make sure you plan your journeys around this closure, it’ll be worth it in the long run.”

Visitors to Gloucester may need to plan their journeys during the three evenings of work. 

Local businesses will be open as usual, however please note that Stroud Road & Clifton Road will not be available for use as an alternative to the No Right Turn into St Ann Way when approaching from Southgate Street.

Access to the supermarket on Clifton Road will be available from Bristol Road only during our working hours.

What’s the diversion route (suitable for heavies)?

From the closure point at the Bristol Road junction turn left onto St Ann Way and proceed to Hempsted Lane. Turn left at the traffic light junction and follow Hempsted Lane onto Secunda Way to the traffic light junction on the A430 with Bristol Road. Proceed straight over the first set of traffic lights and then take the left hand slip road turning onto the A38 Cole Avenue. Follow the A38 to St Barnabus Roundabout and take the 1^st exit onto Stroud Road following the road until the point of the closure.
