Berkeley Street is being resurfaced overnight from Monday 19 August as part of the county council’s £150 million investment into Gloucestershire’s roads.
Used by thousands of motorists, one of the main routes around Cheltenham town centre is subject to heavy wear and tear. The road upgrade will mean a quicker, smoother and altogether more pleasant journey for all road users.
To help minimise disruption, A46 Berkeley Street will be closed overnight from Monday 19 August to Wednesday 28 August (no closure will be in place on Wednesday 21 August). The resurfacing will take place between 7pm to 7am to allow the road to be open during peak times.
When the road is closed a signed diversion route using roads which are suitable for all vehicles will be in place. Your highways crews will complete vital resurfacing works along 2,485m² of the road with 593 tonnes of material.
Cllr Vernon Smith, cabinet member for highways, said: “We will be resurfacing Berkeley Street as part of our £150 million investment to keep Gloucestershire moving. This road is a popular route in Cheltenham and the overnight work will help make journeys around the town centre smoother for both drivers and cyclists.”
Cllr Colin Hay, local councillor for All Saints and Oakley, said: “This is a busy route for road users, so it is vital we resurface and tackle the structural issues of this well-used road. I would like to thank local residents in advance for their patience and cooperation while this important work is carried out.”
