Breathe in, lift and release: fresh air fitness area installed at Marina Court

An event has taken place to officially open and promote a new outdoor fresh air fitness area.

Gloucestershire County Council have part funded the new outdoor facility at Marina Court community hub.

Marina Court is an extra care housing development owned and managed by Hanover Housing Association. It is made up of independent living accommodation including apartments and bungalows, with approximately 90 residents and over 100 community based service users.

Facilities at Marina Court are open to non-residents, and with the official opening of the outdoor area, it is hoped more residents of Tewkesbury will come to Marina Court to use the facilities.

The outdoor facility, which received the majority of funding by a grant from the Active Together fund with local Cllr Mike Sztymiak, has level access to the gym area and is predominantly for older people to use.

The event included demonstration classes from existing instructors and community health trainers were also on hand to provide advice around food and diet at the event which took place today between 10am - 2pm.

Rowena Hindle, Housing Manager at Hanover Housing Association, said: "As outdoor exercising increases in popularity I am sure that residents and the local community will improve their health and wellbeing whilst exercising in this fun and easily accessible way."

Cllr Mike Sztymiak, county councillor for Tewkesbury, said: "Marina Court is an important part of the Tewkesbury community, and the official launch of the outdoor area will be a great way to further strengthen the link between Marina Court and Tewkesbury.

"I am really pleased to have got funding for the facility as part of the Active Together fund, and I hope that people enjoy the equipment."

Cllr Mark Hawthorne, leader of Gloucestershire County Council, said: "This outdoor facility is a fantastic way for people to keep fit, and enjoy the great outdoors.

"Getting fit and improving fitness is a really important aspect of what Active Together is, and I am sure the fresh air fitness area will be a great asset to Marina Court."
