Overnight improvements coming to Cheltenham town centre

As part of the county council’s £150m investment in Gloucestershire’s roads; A46 North Street, Clarence Street, and A46 Albion Street, Cheltenham will be resurfaced overnight this month.

North Street, Clarence Street and Albion Street are all popular and well used roads for motorists in Cheltenham and are subject to heavy wear and tear.

The road upgrade will mean a quicker, smoother and altogether more pleasant journey for all road users.

In total, the resurfacing will take 9 nights to complete; however to help minimise disruption, the works will be done in two phases and take place between 7pm to 7am (excluding weekends).

During phase one both North Street and Clarence Street will be closed between 18 - 25 August. For phase two, Albion Street will be closed between 24 – 28 August.

Cllr Vernon Smith, cabinet member for highways, said: “As part of our £150 million investment, we have identified the need to resurface several roads in Cheltenham town centre to make journeys smoother for motorists and cyclists. By carrying out the resurfacing overnight we will keep disruption to a minimum. I’d like to thank residents and local businesses for their patience while we carry out this work.”

Social distancing measures will be in place to help ensure our highways crews are safe at all times.
