Essential improvements for Moorend Park Road, Cheltenham

Moorend Park Road is being resurfaced as part of Gloucestershire County Council’s £150 million promise to upgrade the county’s highways.

As part of the ongoing commitment to the county’s roads, Moorend Park Road will be resurfaced from Monday 12th February, finishing on Friday 16th February 2018. The road is in need of essential resurfacing work because it has reached the end of its life expectancy.

Cllr Vernon Smith, cabinet member for highways and flood, said: “I’m happy to see this work begin. Moorend Park Road has been slowly deteriorating so these vital improvements will help make the journey smoother for commuters.”

“While we know that this closure will inconvenience people, in the long term it will benefit local people so we’d like to thank them for bearing with us.”

Road closures will be in place on Moorend Park Road between Shurdington Road (A46) and The Park from 12th to 16th February 2018.

Full road closure including overnight: 12th – 14th February

The road will be fully closed and no access will be available from 07:30am Monday to 5:30pm Wednesday, including overnight. A section of the road has deteriorated significantly so a deep excavation is needed before resurfacing the road, making it unsafe to open to through traffic outside our working hours.

Daytime road closure: 15th – 16th February

The road will be closed from 07:30am to 17:30pm.

Cllr Tim Harman, county councillor for Lansdown and Park, said: “I’m really pleased that we’re now able to include Moorend Park Road in the new resurfacing programme. The scheme will mean residents benefit from improved driving conditions into the future, so it’s excellent news for the area. I’d like to thank road users for their patience while this work is carried out.”

Letters have been sent to residents along the route with details about local access arrangements.

Advance warning signs are on display and a diversion will be fully signed when work starts. Pedestrian access will be maintained throughout the scheme.

Works will include kerbing, excavation of carriageway, resurfacing and road markings.

From the south end of Moorend Park Road, turn left onto A46 Shurdington Road, left onto A40 then left on to Park Place which runs down to The Park. Residents and drivers are asked to be patient throughout this period of disruption.
