Get connected with new WiFi and study area
Cheltenham Library is connecting the lives of residents with a brand new £16k WiFi and study area.
The new modern and much needed area will be available to all library users from March this year. It will allow anyone to study or carry out research on their portable devices with the support of the most up-to-date WiFi connection.
If paperbacks are still the key to your heart, readers will soon be able to relax in comfort in the library's brand new ‘comfortable area’ and benefit from over £7,000 of new books.
This new space has been funded through a S106 developer contribution towards improving the local area. The work is scheduled to begin on 5th March and will be ready for use from 10th March 2018.
Cheltenham Library’s balcony area will be fully refurbished to create the new WiFi area. The study space will include; seven two-seater and two four-seater desks with built-in power sockets to allow portable devices to be charged for extended use.
If it’s browsing and relaxing you’re after, users will also have the option of a more relaxed experience. New sofas and tub chairs that have power sockets built into them are included in the £16k refurb.
It is hoped the space will benefit all library users. Especially students and people wanting to study quietly and make use of the WiFi zone on their portable devices.
New signage panels and shelving will also create a warm atmosphere and help people access the library’s specialist collections.
Customers are asked to note that during the works there will be intermittent noise throughout the library. Staff will ensure that a range of materials are still available to customers during the works.
Tim Harman, cabinet member responsible for libraries and county councillor for Lansdown and Park, said: “Cheltenham Library is one of the busiest in the County. I know that the new area will look great and provide a lot more opportunities for people to research, study or relax in comfort. I look forward to visiting the library in the near future and seeing this fantastic new space in use.”
