Paving the way for the Gloucester bus station
The last phase of essential road works around Gloucester bus station will be finished by 15th January 2018.
This Sunday (7th January) work will begin on the final phase of highways work around Gloucester bus station. On Sunday 14th January, crews will complete the resurfacing and white-lining of Market Parade and Station Road – finishing the bus station road works.
In order to carry out these works safely, promptly and minimise disruption a full road closure will be in place on Sunday 7th January between 07:30am – 21:00pm on Market Parade and Station Road. For crews to finish the work there will be a full road closure on Market Parade and Station Road from 07:30am Sunday 14th January until 06:00am Monday 15th January.
Unfortunately, due the these vital works some disruption to the centre of Gloucester on the 7th and 14th January is unavoidable. Traffic will not be able to access Gloucester city centre all day via Station Road and Market Parade, and cars will not be able to use the Kings Walk car park. A number of bus services will be diverted inbound to Gloucester city centre, with diversions detailed below and on bus providers’ social media. The Market Parade taxi rank will not be in use during the works. Temporary taxi ranks at The Oxbode and St Aldate Street are available.
Cllr Vernon Smith, cabinet member for highways at Gloucestershire County Council, said: “It’s really exciting that we are nearing completion of the works around the bus station. The new road layout in the heart of Gloucester city centre is absolutely essential for the new bus station. So far crews have done a great job and I’d like to thank people for their patience during this works. We’re doing everything we can to keep disruption to a minimum.”
Cllr Paul James, leader of Gloucester City Council and cabinet member for regeneration said: “It’s great that we’re seeing the work progress so well on the roads surrounding the bus station. Once this phase is finished, work can begin on the build and things will really start to take shape.”
Cllr Pamela Tracey, county councillor for Hempsted and Westgate, said: “I’m really pleased with the progress to date on the roads around the new bus station. When it’s finished, this project is going to make a big difference to Gloucester.”
