Daytime piling work at Over Roundabout will take place this weekend (Sunday 24 June) to help crews speed up the work. A road closure will be in place on the A40 westbound between Over and Longford.
As part of a £2.756m improvement scheme, Gloucestershire County Council has been working on A40 Over Roundabout near Gloucester overnight to minimise disruption to drivers caused by road closures.
However, on one section of the roundabout where the A40 westbound (between Longford and Over) joins the roundabout ground conditions are proving particularly tricky and a lot more force from the impact hammer is needed. As a result there is a lot more noise being generated.
To try to reduce the noise generated by extended overnight working, and help crews speed up the work, Highways England have agreed to permit daytime working on Sunday (24 June) to get a twelve hour shift done to get through this difficult section.
The work will start at 8am and the road will then be closed for twelve hours until 8pm. The diversion for the A40 westbound is through the city (St Oswalds and over Westgate Bridge) and for HGV’s Eastern Avenue and Hempsted Lane. Commuters should allow extra time for their journeys around Gloucester and take an alternative route to avoid the closure.
Scott Macaulay-Lowe, team leader for major schemes, said, “We appreciate that this daytime closure is far from ideal and we will be monitoring the traffic in the city throughout the day, but please allow extra time travelling around Gloucester this Sunday. The daytime work will help us to get piling work done as quickly as possible and limit the amount of over night work we will need to do next week.”
Over night piling will restart on Monday 25 at 7pm. Keep up to date with the project progress and news on any further road closures on our website, or social media feeds.
