The research, published in the Municipal Journals, praises Gloucestershire for making the top ten as a result of ‘significant improvements’ in productivity in its support for people with disabilities.

The report highlighted improvements in a number of areas, including ensuring service users felt well supported, were satisfied with the service provided and prompt interventions were made.

Cllr Kathy Williams, cabinet member for adult social care delivery at Gloucestershire County Council said: “Despite challenging financial times, we have always invested in the most vulnerable – including an extra £2m this year to support vulnerable older people.  This shows the real differences that decision is making. There is still much to do – but this shows that the hard work of our staff and partners is making a real difference.”
