Wayne Bowcock achievements recognised by new role
Wayne Bowcock has today been announced as the new Chief Executive and Chief Fire Officer of Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service.
Whilst Gloucestershire County Council will be sad to see him go, the appointment is well deserved and all at the council are proud of his achievements over the past two years and wish him every success.
Wayne’s energy and drive over the past two years has seen significant improvements made across the service, including in its culture and values and approach to fire protection work. Wayne has also delivered on 90% of recommendations identified through audits carried out in 2018.
Cllr Dave Norman, Gloucestershire County Council’s Cabinet Member with responsibility for the Fire and Rescue Service, said: “It has been an absolute pleasure to have worked with Wayne. He has worked tirelessly and delivered significant improvement across the service - he has been an outstanding chief fire officer for Gloucestershire.
“I know Royal Berkshire FRS really well so I can understand why Wayne has accepted their offer – it’s the next natural step for an excellent CFO. Wayne’s new role reflects just how far Gloucestershire Fire and Rescue Service has come under his leadership.”
Wayne Bowcock, Gloucestershire’s Chief Fire Officer, said: “I am extremely proud of our firefighters and staff, both in the service and across the wider council - it has been a privilege to have worked with so many talented, hard working people. Together we have achieved so much and put in place strong foundations for ongoing success in the years ahead.
“The decision to move on wasn’t an easy one as Gloucestershire’s fire and rescue service and the county council are great organisations to work for. I wish everyone well for the future.”
Wayne doesn’t leave until the summer but arrangements are now being made to recruit his successor.
